A presentation by General Wesley Clark. Clark spent 34 years in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of 4-star general and NATO Supreme Allied Commander. Clark now serves as Chairman/CEO of Wesley K. Clark & Associates, a strategic consulting firm. Among other awards, Clark has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart. Clark is a former Democratic presidential candidate, a regular commentator on public affairs, and the author of three books. He graduated first in his class at West Point and completed degrees in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Oxford University (B.A. and M.A.) as a Rhodes Scholar.

Investigative Journalism and National Security
A conversation with Dirty Wars writer and producer Jeremy Scahill. Scahill is a National Security Correspondent for The Nation magazine. Scahill has reported from across the globe, including from Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, and former Yugoslavia. His book, Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army was a New York Times bestseller. He is the writer, with David Riker, and producer of the documentary feature film, Dirty Wars, which won the Cinematography Award for U.S. Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013. Scahill’s work has sparked Congressional investigations and won some of journalism’s highest honors including, twice, the George Polk Award.

The Speakers:
Eileen O’Connor works in the U.S. State Department as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia and Senior Director of Communications and Public Diplomacy in the office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. O’Connor previously worked as an attorney and as an award-winning on-air reporter, producer, and Bureau Chief for ABC News and CNN, covering international affairs. O’Connor has a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, a post-graduate Diploma in World Politics from the London School of Economics, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Georgetown University.
Lawrence Korb is a Senior Fellow at American Progress, senior advisor to the Center for Defense Information, and an adjunct professor at Georgetown University. He previously held leadership positions at the Council on Foreign Relations and the Brookings Institution. Korb served in the Navy and was Assistant Secretary of Defense from 1981 through 1985, after which he earned the Department of Defense’s medal for Distinguished Public Service. Korb is a prolific author and frequent commentator on topics related to U.S. national security. He earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the State University of New York at Albany.

The New Terrorist Threats Facing America
A discussion with Steven Emerson who is the Executive Director of The Investigative Project on Terrorism. As an expert on Islamic extremist networks, financing, and operations, Emerson frequently briefs government agencies and testifies before Congress regarding groups such as Al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah. In his 1998 congressional testimony, he warned about the threat of Osama Bin Laden’s network. Emerson has authored six books on terrorism and national security and his documentary film, Jihad in America, earned him the prestigious George Polk Award in journalism.
